Dr. David O'Connell is a Professor in the Department of Management. A member of the faculty since 1998, he has taught courses in leadership, organization theory, conflict and negotiation, human resource management, case research, principles of management, and research methods. Dr. O'Connell served as the Dean of the College of Business at St. Ambrose University from 2010-2014. Dr. O'Connell was named Outstanding Graduate Professor at the University in 2011 and received the Faculty Teaching Award in the College of Business in 2020.
Dr. O'Connell has published articles in the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, Group & Organization Management, Leadership and Organizational Development Journal, People & Strategy, the CASE Journal, Organization and Management Journal, and the Journal of Management Education. His research and writing have focused on organizational vision, team development, leadership development, personal adaptability, grace in the workplace, and management pedagogy. Dr. O'Connell has served on the Board of Directors for the Midwest Academy of Management, where he has been an active member for several years. He has also worked with a number of organizations in a consulting or training capacity.
Prior to pursuing his doctoral studies, Dr. O'Connell served the Public Service Company of New Mexico in communications and research capacities. While a graduate student at Boston University he worked with the Executive Development Roundtable, the Human Resources Policy Institute, and the Boston University School of Public Health.
